Where I Come From

I come from a claw-foot bath tub, from pin sol and a warm wood stove.

I come from Christmas music by Alabama.

I come from the tall prairie grass and the freshly cut blue grass.

I come from a cardinal on the Christmas tree and honesty. From thrift stores and a poetry writer. From a doll named Sweetie Pie.

I come from burnt toast and mustard and constant costume changes.

From catching a cold without a coat and from the sweet smell of lilacs.

I come from a Sunday morning service and giving the Grace we have received. I come from night time prayers and goodnight kisses.

I come from a little house in the country and from German Chocolate Cake.

From "camping out" on the living room floor and family vacations.

I come from the brown teapot, the handwritten postcard, the bible bookmark, and the tiny gold ring. All reminding me who I come from.

This is a poem I wrote for one of my classes. We also had to incorporate technology during the process. Publishing on the blog was how I chose to meet that requirement.

Blessings!

Wedding Wednesday

I just love succulents. Don't you? Their architecture makes me swoon.

I've had hens and chicks for a couple years, knowing that I would like to incorporate them in the decor of my wedding...I'm just kinda a planner. Sorta. Not really though. So I've been waiting for the terra-cotta pots to be in stock and they finally were so I bought enough to split my hens and chicks. That was my fun Sunday project. The gardener in me delighted in getting the dirt under my nails again.

I now have 10 pots. I love that they will add green to the reception tables for little cost, and are something I can keep.

In other news I've sent out 14 bazillon emails inquiring on photographers. We really would love to find an awesome one up there, it would be easiest. I'm finding however, the wedding photography market is OUTRAGEOUS. It astonishes me how a family session can cost $200 but you throw that word Wedding in and suddenly the price is literally at least 10 times higher. Whistles, Sirens, or Bells go off, it's crazy.

Even though we are basically a family session that just happens to have a wedding taking place it's still a rough market. So I've been inquiring on prices. I feel ruthless. I'm at the point where I hardly look at the work I just look for the word "Investment." That's the fancy word they use to try and make you stomach paying as much as they are asking.

Then I email explaining our situation and saying we are on a Thursday because that's gotten me some discounts, but I'm finding that wedding photographers are hard to wheel and deal with. Why? Because they CAN. There will be other weddings, other people who just pay upfront and like it. So I'm trying to be patient. I'm trying to have faith that the right one at the right price will come along. I'm trying to not just say, "Ok. I'll sell my kidney in India and pay for this photographer," mainly because the recovery would infringe on our time frame for the wedding. I promise I'm not as bitter as this narrative sounds. I actually find the predicament a little humorous.

So I'm praying about photographers and patience this week. Guess what guys. Next week? Engagement Photos!

And that concludes this week's Wedding Wednesday.

Thrifty Thursday

Thrifty
Thriftier; Thriftiest
1. Thriving by industry and frugality: prosperous.

It's Thrifty Thursday, the time of the week where I share my thrifty finds from garage sales, antique shops, and of course thrift stores.

This week's find ain't so thrifty. Yes I just said ain't, and I don't think I'm going to apologize for it. Ok maybe I will. I'm sorry. Anyway, I went window shopping downtown Ktown and we know how that goes, I went in and found something I couldn't resist.

These little mittens, and I'm not just saying little to accentuate how cute they are- they really are little, were my favorite find of the day. It's a good thing my hands are also petite. So these gloves weren't so thrifty, but they are adorable and fun and when I'm thrifting that's mostly what it's about. Things usually just happen to be inexpensive. Plus, when you spend $0.25 on a shirt, I think you can "splurge" once an while, don't you?

These mittens also helped me put together an outfit for engagement pictures. I hope to be able to share them with you soon!

Wedding Wednesday

I couldn't quite decide where to put this post. It also fit into the Thrifty Thursday category but because of it's purpose it's here on Wedding Wednesday. The other day I found a darling idea that I knew I had to recreate for the wedding reception. Dance rings! I have many little cousins that will be coming to the dance and I thought these would be such fun for them.

I also have many friends that will get some good mileage out of these.

Won't these make dancing MORE fun? I feel special when I swirl them around too-not that I've done that after each one I make.

Anyway, all I did was take the eye-hook out of the ring(shower curtain rings), cut long strips of ribbon, put a little dab of glue on the ring, looped the ribbon around the ring, and stuck it in place. I have five loops of ribbon on each ring.

Mamas' these would be great toys for your little ones too. Plus they don't make noise! Strips of fabric would also work wonderfully and be just a cute.

Lucky me, I found the glitter ribbon and the shower curtain rings at the Thrifty Nickel. Right now I have about $1.25 in them. I do want to make a few more so I will be going to Hobby Lobby and the Goodwill this week hunting for some more supplies.

This may not have been the highest of priority in terms of what needs to get done, but I needed some crafty time, some mindless and minimal decision making time. This project did the trick and made me smile while thinking about the fun my little ladies and gents will have.

And that concludes this week's Wedding Wednesday!

Wedding Wednesday

I've been absent I know. I've taken a little break for the Holidays. Hope you all had a blessed Christmas and New Years, I did. Back to the task at hand. Wedding Wednesday-you really didn't think I was going to pass up this chance for some obvious and awesome alliteration did you?

For the next few months I'm going to do my darnedest to post weekly with little tid bits of this process. A little way to document this part of our story.

First, we have decided on June 8th for the reception date. So all you long distance people, mark your calendar, call a cab, buy your train ticket, book a flight-do whatever you gotta do to get your booty here to dance, eat, and celebrate Marriage and Life!

Next, I have a dress! I've been perusing the internet for months, casually of course. I am an anomaly as I have never been too enthused with the idea of going wedding dress shopping. Something about my picky-ness, impatience, liking being left alone while shopping, and knowing what I did not want but not knowing what I did want, made me intimidated. After talking to a friend, I was encouraged to find the right seller on ebay and maybe it would work. (Thank you Kacie!)

After randomly stumbling on a dress on jcrew, being curious if it existed on ebay and what the going rate was, I found what I felt to be kismet:

  • One dress
  • Never Been Worn (tags and everything)
  • My Size
  • Good Price
  • Ability to Return if there were any issues.
  • Excellent Seller Reviews

So I bought the beauty and received it on Christmas Eve. It fits wonderfully and only needs shortened a bit. Finally something off that list! Now I'm working on accessories, among other things of course.

And that concludes this weeks Wedding Wednesday.

Blessings!
